Highlights from Mike Mularkey's introductory press conference

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

I am going to start with the greatest quote from today's press conference:

That, my friends, is what NFL coaching is all about.  Ken Whisenhunt did not do that.  Mike Mularkey says he will.  Hopefully he makes good on that promise.

It was interesting that Steve Underwood and Mularkey did all of the talking at the press conference.  Ruston Webster was in attendance but was not at the podium.  Underwood said that controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk has full confidence in Webster as the GM.  We will see if that holds up at the end of the season.

Mularkey also talked about making changes on the offensive line.  It will be interesting to see how that plays out.  It isn't like there is a lot of talent waiting on the bench to crack the starting lineup.  You will probably see a lot more of the 5 tight ends they have on the roster.

Jason Michael will be calling the plays.  Mularkey said that he will intervene between series when it feels appropriate.  It was also mentioned that the most important thing is keeping Marcus Mariota upright.

Mularkey was very complimentary of how well the defense has been playing.  He said they need to do things on offense to help them out.

Underwood reiterated that the team is not for sale.  He said that it will be Amy Adams Strunk who hires the next head coach.  He also said that the head coach will be hired before the president is hired.  That sounds like a terrible idea to me.

Fans who go to games will be glad to know that Aramark, the concession vendor at Nissan Stadium, recently replaced the person that is in charge of operations at the stadium.

What did you think stood out?
