Taylor Lewan is no longer a captain for the Titans

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Mike Mularkey made a lot of changes last week.  One of the changes that wasn't really talked about until today was the fact that Taylor Lewan is no longer a captain.  Mularkey had this to say about the decision after practice today (via Paul Kuharsky):

A lot of that was my decision, based on experience," Mularkey said. "Taylor hadn’t started a full season yet and I thought Dexter had earned that right with his play since he’s been here. Taylor took it extremely well -- probably his best week of work, didn’t let it be a distraction. I just made a decision I thought was best for our team based on what guys have done over a longer period of time.

I endorse this move. Lewan has been out everywhere this offseason and early in the season talking about the type of line he wants them to have, but he hasn't always lived up to the talk. He should play like a captain on the field before being named one.

With all of that being said, there is still no doubt in my mind that Lewan is a franchise left tackle and will be a captain again soon.

Dexter McCluster was named a captain in Lewan's place.
