The 2nd round spells doom for Ruston Webster

Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

If someone were to call Ruston Webster today and offer him a second round pick for Zach Mettenberger, and he turned it down, you would think he is crazy, right?  I hear people all the time talking about how the Titans need to trade Mett, because they have Marcus Mariota now, and get a pick.  On the surface it makes sense, but if you look at Webster's history in the 2nd round, you would probably hope that he would say no.

Ruston Webster has been the general manager, presumably the one calling the shots in the draft, since 2012.  Here are his 2nd round picks:

2012- Zach Brown

2013- Justin Hunter (who he gave up a 3rd round pick in 2014 to move up and get)

2014- Bishop Sankey

2015- Dorial Green-Beckham (he was able to move back and add picks)

Would you trade Mett for any of those guys?  I wouldn't.  Heck, there's a chance that DGB could be the only guy that makes it to the 2016 roster from that group.

Webster needs to do better in drafts from top to bottom.  There is no question about that, but these 2nd round misses are killing the team right now (DGB not withstanding.  Too early to make a call either way there yet, but it would be nice for the coaching staff to figure out a way to get him the ball a few times a game).  He should be getting quality starters in the 2nd round.  The guys listed above are role players at best.
