Greg Wilson is the official who missed the illegal bat call at the end of the Monday Night Football game between the Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks two weeks ago. His crew is scheduled to work the Sunday Night Football game this week between the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts. Wilson will not be working with them. Instead, he has been reassigned to the Miami Dolphins and Tennessee Titans this week. The move was first reported at PFT and Kevin Seifert wrote more about it here.
If I were with the Titans or Dolphins organization, I would be pretty ticked that the NFL is punishing a referee by giving him my game. I get that some games are more profile than others, and no game is more high profile than Sunday Night Football, but that game shouldn't be any more important to the NFL than Titans vs. Dolphins.
The Seifert article mentions that the referee responsible for the clock mishap on this past week's Monday Night Football game has been benched completely. That seems like a more reasonable punishment for a referee that misses something than re-assigning them to a more low profile game.
