Ken Whisenhunt is not a good NFL head coach

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Ken Whisenhunt is 4-28 in his last 32 games as a head coach.  4-28!  He is also 1-7 coming off of the bye.  That, according to gramsey, is the worst record in NFL history.  His overall coaching record is 48-68.  He has been an NFL head coach for 7 years and has never had a record better than 10-6.

Bill Parcells once famously said, "You are what your record says you are." (or something like that).  Ken Whisenhunt is not a good NFL head coach.  There is no way to argue that he is, and there is no reason to give him more time.

Now I know what argument is coming...."But firing him now would be bad for Marcus Mariota!!"  You know what is worse for Marcus Mariota?  Keeping Whisenhunt around for another year and then firing him.  Then the team is in year 3 or Mariota's rookie contract and starting over.

The easiest time for a team to win is when they have value at the quarterback position.  It allows them to pay up at other places they won't be able to when the quarterback is eating up a significant chunk of the team's salary cap.  Look at what is going on with the Seahawks now.  They are having to make a lot of tough decisions after giving Russell Wilson his new contract.

Mariota is going to be a franchise quarterback.  There is no doubt in my mind about that.  Ken Whisenhunt is not the coach to help him bring a Super Bowl to the Titans.  The sooner ownership realizes that, the better off this franchise will be.

A new head coach can make all of the difference in the world.  Don't believe me?  Just ask the Atlanta Falcons (again h/t gramsey).  They were 6-10 last year.  They are currently 5-0.
