Report: Jameis Winston Will Enter the NFL Draft

Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

Yesterday there was some noise that Jameis Winston might return to Florida State.  It was ridiculous, but it was starting to gain some steam.  It was being reported that he would announce his decision after the national title game.

Things apparently changed in the Winston camp last night, and he will announce as early as today that he is entering the draft according to his father via David Hale of ESPN.

There was never any doubt for me that he would enter the draft.  From a pure talent perspective, Winston is the best quarterback in this draft.  He runs a pro-style offense at FSU that includes working through progressions- something that a lot of college QBs don't do anymore.  He has been too careless with the ball this year, but you see flashes when you watch him that make you believe he could/will be really good at the next level.

Of course that is only part of the story when it comes to Winston.  His immaturity on and off the field are going to be a huge concern for NFL teams.  You can bet that he will have the best people in the world coaching him up between now and the combine on how to address those issues with NFL teams.

I hope the Buccaneers ultimately decide to take him with the first pick.  That would leave the Titans a lot of options at #2 because there are going to be a couple of teams that would love to come up and get Marcus Mariota.
