The Tennessee Titans are facing another crucial offseason, where they need to get better almost everywhere or heads will roll. One of the question marks going into the free agency and draft period was what to do with Bernard Pollard, well that situation seems to be solved.
Late Friday night, the Tennessean's Jim Wyatt broke the news that Bernard Pollard wants to be released by the team. Earlier this month Pollard had said this about his future,
"I am not getting any younger, so I want to win, I really do. I want to win,'' Pollard said of his future earlier this month. "Looking at how things took place this year, looking at where (the Titans) need to be for next year, that is a tough, tough question, and I don't even know if they can give me the answer. I have one year on my deal, but it is going to take some time."
This is the best possible situation for the Titans. Pollard had already hit a pretty hard decline before a rough start last year and a subsequent Achilles injury. After the surgery he will likely struggle even more in coverage, and if he can't make game changing hits this might be addition by subtraction.
Pollard was said to be a great motivating presence in the locker room, but the Titans make $3.2 million by cutting a player that probably would have been replaced this offseason anyway. Lets hope that Shonn Greene comes out and asks to be released too.
