Between The Posts: Pro Bowl Nonsense

New, comments

Just a quick take from a guy who hasn't forced himself to watch the "Pro" bowl in years....

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

So the Pro Bowl is here again, and it's in it's second year in the current format; that being a high-school pick'em style draft run by two HOF players. It is so exciting that ratings for the annually poor event actually got worse last time around. So to combat the bad ratings, the NFL has dreamed up a bunch of new and exciting changes to the pro game.

First, they decided to move extra points back a bunch, essentially making them like 33 yard field goals. They are also narrowing the goal posts, something that hasn't been done since the 1920's, and giving each team 2 timeouts per quarter, instead of 3 per half. Extra timeouts! That and the tweaking to the kicking game ought to REALLY excite NFL fans...

It's nonsense like that that continues to keep me away from the Pro Bowl, and that is even after we've gotten past the ridiculous voting standards. So on top of the accolade being reduced to nothing more than a popularity contest, it's more gimmicky and desperate than ever...in case I missed the next cool thing they're changing...
