Would You Rather Have Titans QB Situation or Alex Smith for the Next 5 Years?

Last night Trevor asked: Would You Rather Have Titans QB Situation or Alex Smith for the Next 5 Years? I thought it was a really interesting question that could spark some interesting discussion here on MCM. I think you take Alex Smith without question.

Look, you know what you have in Alex Smith.  He is never going to be Peyton Manning, but he is a serviceable NFL quarterback.  He can take your team to the playoffs if you put the right pieces around him.  That means that the Chiefs can go into the draft every year without having to worry about trying to find a quarterback- which is the toughest position to draft. They can focus on building his supporting cast or the defense. That is a really good situation to be in.

The Titans currently have no idea what they have at the quarterback situation.  Jake Locker is inconsistent.  Charlie Whitehurst is Charlie Whitehust.  Zach Mettenberger has promise, but promise doesn't always turn into success.

Unless we see a major turnaround from Locker in the next few weeks, he isn't going to be back with the team this year.  If Ken Whisenhunt doesn't decide to pull the plug on Locker early enough to get a good look at Mettenberger the Titans will either have to spend another pick on a quarterback in the draft, or enter 2015 hoping that Mett is the answer.  That is not a good place to be.

I understand that Smith is limited in what he can do, but I would take a quarterback with a mid-level ceiling over a bunch of question marks 100 times out of 100.

Those are my thoughts.  What are yours?
