Here is my 53-man Titans roster projection before the Titans first preseason game.
QB (3)- Jake Locker, Charlie Whitehurst, Zach Mettenberger
This is the easiest position group to project outside of punter.
RB (5)- Shonn Greene, Bishop Sankey, Dexter McCluster, Jackie Battle, Leon Washington
That gives you 2 1/2 tailbacks (McCluster being the half), a fullback and a return man. Battle stays because he can play FB and tailback in a pinch. Washington would be one of my last 4 on.
WR (5)- Kendall Wright, Nate Washington, Justin Hunter, Michael Preston, Marc Mariani
My gut tells me that Mike P is in trouble here, but I really hope he shows up in the first couple of preseason games.
TE (3)- Delanie Walker, Craig Stevens, Taylor Thompson
You can go ahead and write this one in stone.
OL (7)- Michael Roos, Andy Levitre, Brian Schwenke, Chance Warmack, Michael Oher, Taylor Lewan, Chris Spencer
Frank Wycheck convinced me on the radio yesterday morning that the Titans can go thin at offensive line because you have 2 swing guys- Spencer as your G/C and Lewan as your G/T because of the time he got at G while Levitre was out.
DL (8)- Jurrell Casey, Ropati Pitoitua, Al Woods, Sammie Lee Hill, DaQuan Jones, Karl Klug, Mike Martin, Lavar Edwards
Mookie Johnson probably should be included here, but I had a tough time figuring out who to keep him over- possibly Edwards....
LB (9)- Derrick Morgan, Kamerion Wimbley, Shaun Phillips, Akeem Ayers, Wesley Woodyard, Zach Brown, Avery Williamson, Zaviar Gooden, Colin McCarthy
McCarthy is hanging on by a thread here. Moises Fokou might end up with a spot here.
CB (5)- Jason McCourty, Coty Sensabaugh, Blidi Wreh-Wilson, Marqueston Huff, Tommie Campbell
Tommie Campbell? Yep, Tommie Campbell
S (5)- Michael Griffin, Bernard Pollard, George Wilson, Daimion Stafford, Khalid Wooten
I actually like this group as much as any safety group the Titans have had since the days of Blaine Bishop.
LS (1)- Beau Brinkley
Whatever.
K (1)- Travis Coons
Most people are going Maikon Bonani here, but Coons has been more accurate thus far. Now Coons just has to show that he has enough leg to get the kickoff into the end zone.
P (1)- Brett Kern
Duh.
Weigh in with your thoughts in the comments.
In case you missed it last night, here is the show that Churchill and I did with Joe Fann of Titans Online.
