Tommie Campbell looked like he might be getting a potential chance to shine this year. Unfortunately, today was not a great day for the athletic phenom.

It is the first day of training camp and I know that it is easy to get rusty after all this time, but this is a trend that can not continue for Campbell. Mariani is smaller, slower (straight line speed), and is coming off of two major leg injuries. There is no way that a player with that sort of recent misfortune should burn you in a one on one scenario with the backup QB.
Now it should be said that Mariani deserves some points here. He has shown up to camp in good shape despite having missed two full seasons, and he has obviously been studying the game or else he wouldn't have made this play. Hopefully for the Titans this is more a case of Mariani's outstanding work ethic than Campbell's mistakes.
Campbell has made his bones on special teams, and with play like this is it easy to see why that could be his only hope this year. With a talented group of cornerbacks fighting for only one job, it will be interesting to see is Campbell can put it together this year with excellent coaching.
