On the Ray Rice Two Game Suspension

Rob Carr

Ray Rice was suspended for 2 games this morning by the NFL for knocking out his fiancee in a elevator ON CAMERA.  That's right...they have visual evidence that Rice committed the crime, he also admitted to it in one of the most ridiculous press conferences ever, and all they gave him was 2 games.

Man, it sure is a good thing that Rice didn't get free tattoos while he was in college because Terrell Pryor did that, again WHILE IN COLLEGE, and the NFL suspended him for 5 games.  So when ranking offenses (because you can't say ranking crimes because getting a free tattoo isn't even a crime) the NFL thinks that getting a free tattoo is more than 100% worse thank knocking out a woman.

It is also a good thing Ray Rice didn't smoke weed or take a performance enhancing drug.  Those offenses will get you four games...so by NFL logic, those offenses are 100% worse than knocking out a woman and then dragging her out of an elevator.  Got it.

Hey Roger, you have a really good thing going right now.  Your league is by far the most popular sports league in the history of the world, but that doesn't mean it can't be undone.  Think about it this way- how hard is it in our society today to get everyone to agree on something?  There is virtually no subject left that everyone agrees on, but the reaction to the ridiculous Rice suspension today has been unanimous.

That is a great way to turn some people off from your game, Roger.  You want to be judge, jury and executioner.  It is always a terrible idea for anyone to have all of those powers, but it is an especially terrible idea when you are terrible and handing down punishments.

And lastly, the Baltimore Ravens are the most despicable franchise in the NFL if they don't add to this suspension.  They have already made themselves look terrible by Tweeting this during that terrible press conference:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Janay Rice says she deeply regrets the role that she played the night of the incident.</p>&mdash; Baltimore Ravens (@Ravens) <a href="https://twitter.com/Ravens/statuses/469918292061061120">May 23, 2014</a></blockquote>

This should be about so much more than winning football games.  They should take a stance here and add to what the commissioner cowardly did this morning.  Rice should miss no less than half of the season, and it would be a full season if it were up to me....and I would say the same thing if it were a member of the Titans.
