NFL Trade Rumors: Tennessee Titans looking to move RB Chris Johnson

The Titans seem to finally be ready to move on from Chris Johnson.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

For the past five years, running back Chris Johnson has been the face of the franchise. The easiest way to know this is by listening to broadcasters who haven't seen the Titans since 2009 talk about why the Titans don't give Chris Johnson the ball more given his burst and speed in the open field.

Well after a long (possibly overlong) stint in Tennessee, it looks like the two parties will be parting ways. The first outlet that really spelled it all out is Pro Football Talk, who released this tweet earlier today.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Per league source, Titans will soon begin attempting to trade RB Chris Johnson. Full story coming at PFT.</p>&mdash; ProFootballTalk (@ProFootballTalk) <a href="https://twitter.com/ProFootballTalk/statuses/442769491722641410">March 9, 2014</a></blockquote>

This was followed and given more credence by this report by Ian Rapoport, an NFL Insider from NFL.com. Rapoport is one of the best sources about the Titans and his information is generally very accurate.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Yup. They will try, then will likely release him. RT <a href="https://twitter.com/LGidcumb32">@LGidcumb32</a>: <a href="https://twitter.com/RapSheet">@RapSheet</a> is there truth to the Titans trading CJ?</p>&mdash; Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) <a href="https://twitter.com/RapSheet/statuses/442771216663736321">March 9, 2014</a></blockquote>

At this point I think the Titans would take anything for Chris Johnson considering the alternative is cutting him. However either way, if he is off the roster then the Titans will receive an extra $5.5 million in cap room for 2014.
