Titans offseason plan part 1: Re-sign Alterraun Verner and Bernard Pollard

The Titans secondary was the best position group on the team last season. They should be doing everything in their power to keep that group together.

Harry How

With each passing day it is looking more and more like Alterraun Verner will not be with the Titans in 2014, but he should be their #1 priority right now. I understand that he has limits to his game, but they won't find a guy with better intelligence and instincts out there. Not to mention the fact that he is still very young. His best years are likely ahead of him.

They aren't going to franchise him, and they shouldn't because he isn't a top-5 corner, but they could find a long-term deal that didn't break the bank that would make both sides happy. If they don't, they are going to regret it.

The other piece of the 2013 secondary that is set to hit the market is Bernard Pollard. The Titans brought Pollard in to help change the culture on the defensive side of the ball. He did that, and he played better than they expected that he would.

It seems like Pollard is old because he has been on so many teams, but he is only 29 years old. He still has a few good years left in him. They should look to get him on a 2-3 year deal that pays most of the guaranteed money in the first year.

Locking these two guys up would sure up the back end of the defense. Part 2 of my offseason plan will focus on the front seven.
