Zach Mettenberger Out for the Year with Sprained AC Joint

It is almost officially official at this point.

Yesterday Jim Wyatt told us that it was likely Zach Mettenberger was out for the year after Ken Whisenhunt committed coaching malpractice and let him get hammered behind a terrible offensive line.  The NFL Network is confirming that today:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-partner="tweetdeck"><p><a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Titans?src=hash">#Titans</a> QB Zach Mettenberger is out for the year with an AC joint separation, source said. This is following his MRI.</p>&mdash; Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) <a href="https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/542033129511600128">December 8, 2014</a></blockquote>

What really sucks is that if Mett would have just sat against the Giants, there is a chance he could have come back to the Jets game with Taylor Lewan and Michael Oher possibly back out there.  While Oher isn't good, he is a major upgrade over what they have been running out there.

A line of Lewan, Andy Levitre, Chris Spencer, Chance Warmack and Oher could probably at least keep Mettenberger from getting sacked 8 times.  That  could have given them three more games to evaluate.  Oh well.

Now we are left with more questions than answers about how Mett projects as an NFL quarterback.  If Whisenhunt is still going to be here after the year, I am still of the belief that they should role with Zach Mettenberger and use the draft picks to improve the 52 other holes on their roster.
