Derrick Morgan was quietly having another very good year, but a two-sack game against the Jaguars may have just made him more expensive.
Morgan who is going into a free agency at the end of the year has a lot to offer a team. He can be an effective pass rusher that consistently brings pressure without abandoning rushing lanes. He is someone who won't change a game, but he can give you five or six very good plays per game. If a team has a defined pass rusher, Morgan may be best suited to join that team and anchor the other side.
Morgan is graded as a top-10 DE/OLB this year above players like Clay Matthews, Tamba Hali, Barkevious Mingo, and Connor Barwin. It will be hard to keep him on a long term deal without giving him solid numbers, and while the Titans have the money to do this, they may want to spend it other places.
Morgan has been a reliable piece on this defense for several years, and he and Casey could be great pieces to build around especially if the Titans are looking for an explosive pass rusher in the top 40 picks. If not, he could be a player that goes off and has the type of year that people expected Alterraun Verner to have this year.
Only time will tell, but it will be interesting to see what the Titans front office does with stalwarts like Michael Roos, Nate Washington, Derrick Morgan, and Karl Klug given that they have the money and the draft picks to completely overhaul this roster.
