Bill O'Brien announced today that Ryan Mallett will take over for Ryan Fitzpatrick as the starting quarterback for the Houston Texans. You had to figure this was going to happen after neither Mallett nor Fitzpatrick were available to the media yesterday....sound familiar? Well, it should. That is the exact same thing that happened with the Titans before it was announced that Zach Mettenberger was going to take over as the starter.
There are a lot of similarities between the Texans move to Mallett and the Titans move to Mettenberger. It is all about finding out what you have in a guy. Houston is under more of a time crunch though because Mallett is only under contract for the rest of the year. They have to make a big decision on him based on what he does in the last 7 games of the season.
I am glad to see this move because I don't think Mallett is going to be any good in the NFL. He makes Mettenberger look mobile, and the Texans have had trouble on the offensive line. Fitzy has done a lot of damage on the run. Mallett will not do any damage on the run because he is the very definition of a statue. Good luck with that.
