NFL Trade Rumors: Titans Trading Akeem Ayers to the Patriots

Don McPeak-USA TODAY Sports

Jim Wyatt has broken the story that the Titans are trading Akeem Ayers to the New England Patriots.  Wyatt said he does not know at this time what the Titans are getting for Ayers.  Paul Kuharsky said on Twitter that he has been told it is not a conditional pick.  Wyatt also said there were multiple teams interested in Ayers.

You have to say that Ayers was a bust in Tennessee.  He was a second round pick back in 2011.  Every year we heard about the big things he was going to do as a pass rusher, but it never came to fruition.

There was a lot of talk that the transition to the 3-4 would be good for Ayers because he was a better fit in that defense.  That also never came to fruition.  There was talk that he could be cut before the season started, and he has been inactive most of the year.

Credit to Ruston Webster and Ken Whisenhunt for not letting him go in that last round of cuts.  It will be interesting to see what the return is for him.  There is no way they will be getting back that second round pick that they invested in him, but something is better than nothing.

[UPDATE]- Jason LaCanfora is reporting that the Titans are getting a 6th round pick from the Patriots for Ayers and the Titans 7th round pick.
