There has been a lot of talk about the Titans spending the 11th pick on an offensive tackle. It didn't make much sense because he wasn't going to be on the field this year. Well all of that changed when Michael Roos went down with a season-ending knee injury last week.
Taylor Lewan did not disappoint in his starting debut. He drew high praise from a lot of people, including Pro Football Focus, who gave him the game ball for his performance. Here is what they had to say about Lewan's performance in their "Re-Focused" post:
Breakdown: The first round rookie was expected to sit and provide depth for the majority of the season, but that all changed last week as Michael Roos was put on IR. In his first start of the season Taylor Lewan performed like a veteran only giving up 1 pressure (a sack) and being solid in the run game.Signature Stat: After one start and a handful of other plays Lewan is the 19th graded tackle so far this season.
That is something to build on. I said in the recap yesterday that the most encouraging thing from the win was the way the young guys played. You can add Lewan to that list.
Also, note that Blidi Wreh-Wilson graded out very well in this one. We have been really hard on him this year- fairly at times, but we have to give him his due when he plays well. Hopefully this game gave him some confidence.
