Is Karl Klug the secret to big games for Casey?

Does competition push Casey to be better?

Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

The Titans know they have one of the best defensive linemen in the league with Jurrell Casey. However, there are several occasion where he has a pedestrian stat sheet, and really doesn't jump off the film. So the big question for the Titans is what can they do to make Casey as productive as possible? The answer, a heavy dose of Karl Klu(uuuuuu)g.

Over the past three years, there have only been two games where Karl Klug has tallied a sack and Casey has not. While it is easy to dismiss this, think about how Chris Johnson used to play for the Titans. After several bad stretches of play, the Titans would lean a little bit heavier on other runners like Javon Ringer, Shonn Greene, Jamie Harper, etc. Almost inevitably, the next game Chris Johnson would have a big game and subject Tennessee to watch several more weeks of bad football from the Titans.

Similarly, when Karl Klug comes in and gets to the quarterback, it seems to energize his fellow 2011 NFL Draft classmate. With the Titans struggling to keep a defensive line healthy, a rotating lineup of Karl Klug, Jurrell Casey, and Ropati Pitoitua looks like a great unit. The staff needs to find more ways to get these guys on the field together.
