Is Jadeveon Clowney the best prospect in the 2014 NFL Draft?

There is going to be a lot of debate about the #1 pick between now and May. Should Jadaveon Clowney be the Texans pick at #1?

Mike Ehrmann

Yesterday we looked at Dan Kadar's latest mock draft where he had Jadaveon Clowney going first overall to Houston. I would be pretty shocked if the Texans don't take a quarterback with that pick, but there are a lot of people that consider Clowney the #1 player in this draft.  Is that really the case?

Clowney had a down year in 2013.  He seemed to lack the motivation that he had in his first two years in South Carolina.  Don't believe me?  Just go back and read some of the comments Steve Spurrier made about Clowney throughout the course of the season.

Does that diminish his value?  It doesn't to me.  There is always the chance that he will get to the NFL and be lazy, but the odds of that are less likely with the new NFL rookie wage scale.  Players don't get that HUGE money until their second contract.  That makes it less likely they will shut it down right after they get drafted.

That fact is that Clowney has the special skills to come in and make a defense better from the moment he steps on the field.  He could make a very similar impact as Jevon Kearse did back in 1999.  There is a lot of value in that, and the fact that you know he can make an impact from day one could put him ahead of these quarterbacks.

So I pose the question to you- If you are the Texans, are you taking Clowney or your the top quarterback on your board with the first pick?
