Jay Cutler signs 7-year contract extension with the Bears

There was talk of the Tennessee Titans being interested in signing Jay Cutler if he hit the free agent market. The Chicago Bears made sure that didn't happen today.

There are multiple outlets reporting this morning that Jay Cutler has signed a 7-year contract extension with the Bears.  It is not really a surprise that the Bears didn't want him to hit the open market.  You can debate if Cutler is an elite quarterback or not, but he has elite quarterback skills.

I have never been a big fan of Cutler's on the field demeanor, but thought it would be a good idea for the Titans to make a run at him if he did hit the market. But, as I said above, any opinions on that are irrelevant at this point.

Of course had he hit the market, it probably would have taken Tommy Smith at least a week to get around to talking about what kind of money he would be willing to spend on him anyway.
