How did the five free agents do against top competition?
1. Greg Hardy DE, Carolina
Hardy racked up six tackle and two quarterback hits. While not a spectacular day, he was disruptive and did so without giving up outside running lanes for Colin Kaepernick.
2. Sean Phillips DE/OLB, Denver
Phillips was exactly what I said he was. While he only totaled two tackles, they were both sacks and are exactly why he will be valuable to a team on a one or two year deal in March.
3. Knowshon Moreno RB, Denver
Moreno totaled 82 rushing yards, 12 receiving yards, and a touchdown in their big game against the Chargers. While those numbers don't dazzle, he was very effective in short distance situations which is why a team would want him.
4. Anquan Boldin WR, San Francisco
As always, Boldin was an absolute terror for the defense to try to cover. At the end of the day, Boldin ended up with eight receptions for 136 yards. If he does decide to test free agency teams like the Patriots and Steelers would be crazy not to overpay for him despite his age.
5. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie CB, Denver
No DRC isn't better than ATV, obviously. However, he will cost about half as much as ATV and he fits the prototype of what corners should ideally look like in the NFL today (6'2"). DRC had three pass defenses and consistently made it tough on receivers to get into the open field, he is showing why he was a high pick a few years ago.
