I am sad for the Titans any time a player goes down with an injury because I am a fan of the team. I am sad for that player because I know how much it sucks to be sidelined with an injury, but seeing Jake Locker motionless on the turf at The Woodshed today broke my heart.
I can't put my finger on what it is exactly that is making me sick about it. Part of it is that I really like Jake Locker the person. He seems like a genuinely nice guy who just loves to play football. You can tell by the progress he has made this season that he has really put in the work this offseason to strengthen the areas of his game that were weak.
Part of it is because there are so many people out there that think Locker will not make it as an NFL quarterback. While this season has been a small sample size, it is still clear to me that he has the tools and "want too" to become a quality starter in this league. He seemed to be coming into his own before this injury.
The hopeful thing as I write this is that we don't know how severe the injury is. He might just miss a couple of weeks and be as good as new, but there is that voice in the back of my head that tells me it is something much more serious.
Tonight I will pray for Jake Locker. I will pray that whatever that his injury is not serious and that he will be able to be back playing the game that he loves before long. I will say that prayer because I like Jake Locker as a person first and football player on my favorite team second. I hope you will do the same.
Get well soon, Jake. We are all pulling for you.
GO TITANS!!
