This year, I wanted to do an ongoing series during the season to track the additions the FO made to the Titans roster in the offseason. All of their game stats will be posted here weekly. My aim here is to illustrate how much the FO has helped, or hurt the team this year with their Free Agent moves. At the end of the year we can give them a true grade on their strategy to take this team back to the playoffs.
Delanie Walker - 1 catch, 10yds, TD
Walker looked rusty last week after missing the entire preseason with an injury, but he and Locker connected a few times down the field. He looked pretty good against the Texans in the running game, except for a holding call early on. In the passing game however, he had little impact except his capping off of a very impressive 99 yard drive with a TD catch. He will need to be a bigger presence in the passing game going forward to help Locker move the chains.
Rob Turner – 10,472 penalties (this is the exact number), multiple pressures and 1 sack allowed.
Do I even need to go into this one? Turner has been the worst player on the Titan's offensive line, and maybe the entire team, through two weeks. Munch has come out and publicly defended him, but there is no way Brian Schwenke isn't starting if this poor play continues. He plays the most important position, mechanically, on the line in my opinion. Without an adequate space to step up into, Locker's play suffered and will continue to do so. That's not on Locker alone, even the best QBs struggle with interior pressure. It also completely neutered the Titan's ability to run in the interior.
Bernard Pollard - 8 tackles, 1 asst, 1 INT
Pollard made some bone crushing hits Sunday, which is exactly the thing Webster brought him in for. He made some very impressive open-field tackles and his physicality really set the tone for the defense this week. His reward? An interception he almost returned for six of a pass thrown his way due to heavy pressure on Matt Schaub. His Titans career is off to a great start.
Sammie Hill – 1 tackle, Andy Levitre - 1 sack allowed, Moise Fokou – 3 tackles, 1 qb pressure, Jackie Battle – 6 carries, 13 yards, L-9, Shonn Greene - OUT, Ropati Pitoitua – 1 tackle, George Wilson – 3 tackles.
Side note: I apologize for the lack of in-depth stats on the offensive lineman, but this should be remedied by next week's article.
