NFL roster cuts: Titans release Fernando Velasco; roster at 53

In the most surprising move of the day, the Titans have released last year's starting center Fernando Velasco.

Until yesterday I was 100% sure that Fernando Velasco was going to be on this roster, but yesterday I started hearing his name as a possible cut.  It is surprising because he played well last year at center AND at guard, but apparently he didn't play well enough this year.

The Titans added more to the interior of the roster this offseaosn than anywhere else.  They added two swing guys in Rob Turner and Chris Spencer, signed Andy Levitre and drafted Chance Warmack and Brian Schwenke.  Those moves made Velasco expendable.

There is no doubt in my mind that Velasco will find work elsewhere before the season starts.

You can see the Titans current 53 man roster here. That roster might not be final, however, as they look at guys that other teams have cut in the last couple of days.
