Titans training camp battles: middle linebacker

We have talked a lot about the cornerback battle that is going on in Titans camp. There is also an interesting battle at middle linebacker.

US PRESSWIRE

Colin McCarthy is a fan favorite. He has a nose for the football, and is a playmaker at the middle linebacker position. Those are his positives, but he has one HUGE negative- he just can't seem to stay healthy. That was the knock on him coming out of college, and is why the Titans were able to snag him in the fourth round.

Last year the Titans didn't really have a plan in the middle if McCarthy went down, which was pretty dumb considering his injury history. This year they do. His name is Moise Fokou. He is entering his 5th year in the NFL out of the University of Maryland. He spent 2012 with the Colts.

While there is no doubt that McCarthy is the better football player, he has to prove that he can stay healthy and earn the trust back of the coaching staff. Mike Munchak talked about McCarthy after practice this afternoon:

He looks good, he looks physical to me. He looks bigger. He looks stronger. He looks like he’s enjoying practicing again, so it’s fun to watch him. I think so far he’s done everything he needs to do and we’ll just keep practicing and I think he’ll keep showing up the way he always has. So I think it’s great.

Sounds like so far, so good..
