The Titans really added some pieces over the weekend that can compete for a starting job, so I think it is a good idea to lay out who I think will go into the season with starting jobs.
QB: Jake Locker, Ryan Fitzpatrick
RB: Chris Johnson, Shonn Greene
WR1: Kenny Britt, Damian Williams
LT: Michael Roos, Mike Otto
LG: Andy Levitre, Fernando Velasco
C: Brian Schwenke, Fernando Velasco
RG: Chance Warmack, Fernando Velasco
RT: David Stewart, Mike Otto
TE: Delanie Walker, Craig Stevens
WR Slot: Kendall Wright, Kevin Walter
WR2: Justin Hunter, Nate Washington
Summary: At quarterback there will be more controversy than people think, but at the end of the day Jake’s legs will earn him the job in a new flexible offensive scheme.
Running back is clearly Chris’s job to lose, and with this offensive line I think the Titans will be eager to see if he can recreate some of his CJ2K magic.
The offensive line is pretty much set except for the center spot, and with the Titans naming Schwenke the "top center" that they saw in this draft, it is tough not to see him competing heavily for a spot. The Titans haven’t made any long-term commitments to Velasco, and they were hesitant to start him in 2011 even when the offensive line was horrible so he could be someone the Titans don’t see as a starter. Despite all that he did have a very good year and could hold on to his job.
The passing targets were pretty clear-cut except for a battle between Washington and Hunter. Washington fell out of grace with the coaching staff last year after a substandard effort, and could be in the doghouse. Also, it is rare for a team to trade up for a receiver they don’t think can start, and again this is another player that the Titans identified as the top at his position list on their draft board.
