From PVSam:

The Saints were dead last in yards given up per game last year. They gave up 57 more yards per game than the next lowest ranked team. Fifty Freaking Seven yards more than the second worst team. That's disgusting. Needless to say, they need a lot of help on the defensive side of the ball.

With the hiring of Rob Ryan, the Saints plan on moving from a 4-3 to a 3-4 defense for the 2013 season. They were hoping that one of the four highly-rated hybrid DE/OLB (Mingo, Ansah, Dion Jordan and Jarvis Jones) would fall to them at this spot. But, alas, they were all chosen very early in the draft.

Bjoern Werner, Datone Jones and Tank Carradine all profile as 4-3 DEs and won't fit in the Saints new scheme. Alec Ogletree, Te'o and Arthur Brown are considered ILB. So instead of reaching for a rushing linebacker, such as Damontre Moore or Alex Okafor, they decided to shore up another problem area from last year, their safeties. While Roman Harper is a decent (and dirty) Strong Safety, they really need help at the Free Safety position. Vaccaro is the highest rated safety in a pretty deep class. He has no problem covering bigger tight ends and can keep up while covering smaller slot receivers. He is a normally sound tackler who decides to head hunt every once in a while, which can cause him to miss some sure tackles. I've heard him described as a raw Charles Woodson, which is some high praise. The Saints hope he can help them stop somebody....anybody next year.
