Let's face it if you are looking at the waiver wire going into the playoffs you are in trouble. Thus ends the weekly waiver wire posts and I hope you enjoyed them as much as I enjoyed writing them! So let's celebrate the end of the regular fantasy season by looking at some fantasy football awards.
Biggest fantasy surprise award
RB Knowshon Moreno, Denver Broncos
Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno was a pleasant surprise this season, breaking out from a crowded backfield to assume the starting role. He was also a consistent fantasy producer in a Broncos offense that featured a high octane passing attack. Moreno has averaged 16.20 fantasy points per game. Not only has he been a factor in the backfield but also in the passing game. Well done. Also, he loves his country.
Best fantasy rookie award
RB Eddie Lacy, Green Bay Packers
Had Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell been healthy, he might have earned this award but it's Lacy's game ball since he played more. After missing 3 games plus a bye, Bell has taken over the Steelers backfield and averaged 13.36 fantasy points per game. Eddie Lacy emerged from a more crowded backfield and missed only one game and is averaging 12.60 fantasy points per game without quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Game ball to Lacy.
Biggest rookie fantasy flop award
WR/OW Tavon Austin, St. Louis Rams
St. Louis Rams rookie all purpose weapon Tavon Austin was supposed to take the NFL by storm this year and well you remember the drill. Austin averaged 12.50 fantasy points per game but his stats were greatly assisted by special teams stats. Cordarrelle Patterson might make this category except the Minnesota Vikings coaching staff forget they could play him on offense too.
Biggest overall fantasy derp award
WR Mike Wallace, Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins signed former Pittsburgh Steelers wideout Mike Wallace to a $60 million dollar contract in the offseason and he was expected to fill the wide receiver #1 role and help out young quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Well, that didn't happen. If you own Wallace you understand my I might be bitter here. Wallace averaged 11.44 fantasy points per game. Given where you probably drafted him, that's just terrible. Honorable mention to New York Giants running back David Wilson, but I'm trying to stick with guys who actually played most of the year.
Fantasy football MVP
QB Peyton Manning, Denver Broncos
Is there any doubt that Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is the most valuable fantasy player this year? Manning blew the competition away and it wasn't even close. Not only did he make himself the most valuable fantasy player, but he made 4 of his receivers virtually must start options every week and helped his running back as well as you can see above. I can't remember that ever happening before. Manning averaged a whopping 23.5 fantasy points per game. Second was Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson. Megatron averaged 20.85 fantasy points per game.
