Titans vs Texans matchup to watch today: Offense

Who has the biggest issue to deal with.

Steven Bisig-US PRESSWIRE

The regular season finale is here, and like always there are one or two matchups that could have a huge impact on the game. For the Titans, this usually involves a wide receiver or tight end dealing with a talented cover man. This week, the matchup to watch is in the trenches: J.J. Watt vs Byron Stingily and Chance Warmack

The Matchup

The Titans right side of the offensive line has been very disappointing this year. It feels like veteran RT David Stewart can only play if he has a full week of practice off, and even then he isn't bringing anything special to the table. Now he looks like he won't play which leaves the Titans in a tough spot.

Stewart's replacement Byron Stingily actually had a good day against the Jaguars. According to PFF, he accumulated a +1.7 grade including a 1.1 grade as a pass blocker. While he did allow one sack, overall he was competitive and looked like he could be a swing tackle worth keeping.

The other issues is when he kicks inside to DT and challenges Chance Warmack. Warmack has been great in space and in one-on-one run blocking, but when the Titans ask him to pass protect or to zone block he looks bad. If the Titans ask him to out finesse J.J. Watt, then he will lose, as would 99% of OL. If the so-called offensive line experts (Munchak and Matthews) realize this by Week 17 then the might be able to neutralize Watt.
