What is the latest on a possible Kenny Britt trade?

Grant Halverson

Ian Rapoport has been great with Titans news this year. It was the NFL.com employee that first had the news that there was a strong indication that the Titans would have Jake Locker active vs the 49ers. Subsequently, he was also the first authoritative source to confirm that report. So what news does Rapoport have for the Titans today?

Earlier today when reporting players clearly on the trade block, he had this to say.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>And <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23Titans&amp;src=hash">#Titans</a> are shopping WR Kenny Britt and the price is not high. That said, no takers yet. Lions would make sense… if no off-field issues</p>&mdash; Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) <a href="https://twitter.com/RapSheet/statuses/394504428923129856">October 27, 2013</a></blockquote>

There are two interesting parts of that tweet. Firstly, despite Mike Munchak saying that the Titans weren't making calls trying to trade Britt, it seems as though the plan has been to move Britt all along.

The second interesting thing about this is that he offers a specific team that the Titans could trade with.

The Lions were a hot name to possibly trade for a WR earlier in the season when Nate Burleson sustained the infamous "pizza" injury. However, now that they are in the thick of the playoff hunt they could be primed for a move like this.

If the Lions are going to make a late season push, then they might be the highest bidders for someone with Britt's physical ability. A fifth round pick isn't a huge price tag for a head coach that needs to win now or risk being fired if he has a late-season meltdown.

I have said before that I think a fourth would be excellent, but I bet the asking price is a fifth round pick. News from Rapoport on the Titans is generally rock-solid, and all the pieces seem to fit. It will be very interesting to see if the Titans can make a trade before the deadline.
