On the heels of the tragic suicide of young Titans QR O.J. Murdock, Jim Wyatt details the litany of frustrations that had plagued Murdock since beginning (sort of) his college career at South Carolina, though tearing his Achilles on the first day of camp last season.
Rather shocking news broke this weekend for astute Titans fans: The Cleveland Browns are in the process of being sold to Jimmy Haslam, the very same Haslam who tried to land an expansion team in Nashville, and who has long been rumored as the next owner of the Titans after Bud passes and his heirs sell the team. Hopefully it's not a concern we'll need to address for a few years, but I can attest that there are very few families in the State of Tennessee who have the resources and desire to pony up the money it would take to purchase the team. While that's not the end of the world, there is something a bit romantic (and secure in terms of relocation fears way down the road) about having an owner who comes from the home state of the team. I'll keep my feelings about the Haslams' political machine to myself, but this news has to shake-up the long-term plan that was in place behind the curtains in Bud's office.
Jake Locker and his wife welcomed their first child, awesomely southern-named daughter Colbie Jo Locker. Early reports say that Colbie Jo already has better composure in the huddle than Rusty Smith, more mobility than Kerry Collins and more consistent accuracy than Vince Young. Sign her up, Mikey.
As Jimmy and I have said all offseason, we expect to see less catches for CJ, but more catches in an position where he's on the move immediately.
Only Kenny Britt would be dumb enough to get a DUI just before the end of his pen-ultimate year of his rookie contract just months after his team spent a top pick on a guy who plays the same position. Munchak confirmed that the Titans won't cut him any time soon, but between the police blotter and his knee surgeries, he's lost any chance of getting a good contract no matter how he plays in 2013.
Jim Wyatt has a few notes from Sunday's practice, where Locker and Hasselebeck both looked sharp sharing reps.
John Glennon says Alterraun Verner is good at covering wide receivers, which comes in handy when you're playing CB.
TitansOnline writer Craig Peters says Akeem Ayers and Jurrell Casey are going into camp with a boatload of confidence.
Here's the official Titans statement on the death of O.J. Murdock.
And here are Munchak's statements after yesterday's practice.
