Police in Tampa, Florida are investigating an attempted suicide by Titans WR O.J. Murdock. According to the Tampa Bay Times, Murdock was found at around 8:30 this morning in his car in front of a high school in Florida. He appeared to have a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.
Murdock was signed by the Titans as a undrafted free agent last summer, but missed the whole season hurting his foot in camp the other day. It was reported that he did not show up for training camp at the end of last week, but it was said that the Titans were aware of the situation.
Obviously football is the last thing that is important in a time like this. Hopefully O.J will make it through this and be able to get the help he needs to prevent something like this from happening again in the future. Our thoughts and prayers go to his family.
[UPDATE]- Police in Tampa have now confirmed that Murdock passed away from the gunshot wound. Wow, I don't even know what to say....
[UPDATE #2]- Here is the statement from the Titans:
"We are shocked and saddened to hear of O.J. Murdock’s death this morning. In his brief time here, a number of our players, coaches and staff had grown close to O.J., and this is a difficult time for them. He spent the last year battling back from an Achilles injury as he prepared for this year’s training camp. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends as they try to cope with this tragedy."
