"New offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski says skipping this week's organized team activities isn't doing Maurice Jones-Drew any favors." When I read that sentence from the ESPN AFC South blog this morning and couldn't help but think back to the saga last offseason between Chris Johnson and the Titans. It just sounds all to familiar. The star running back, who wants a new contract, is not with his team while a new coaching staff is trying to install a new offense.
Of course the Jaguars have a lot of time before it gets as ugly as it did here, and MJD has not said he is planning on holding out like CJ did last year, but it can't make him very happy to see these mega deals that some running backs around the league have gotten in the last year.
Jones-Drew also knows that he probably only has one big contract left. He has racked up the carries in the last couple of years, and figures to do so again this season unless Blaine Gabbert makes some kind of miracle transition in year two.
This might end up being nothing, but it is something to keep an eye on.
