Not to be outdone by Mike Mayock, Mel Kiper has put out a new mock draft (In$ider). He added in some trades in this one because he believes the first round will be really active with trades. I feel like people say that every year.
Kiper has the Titans taking Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama. Here is what he had to say about the pick:
One of the best fits in the draft. The Titans lost their top cover corner in free agency, and Kirkpatrick has the talent and experience to contribute right away. I've talked to people who think of him more as a Cover 2 fit, but Kirkpatrick is good enough to be successful even if you don't think the system is perfectly tailored to him.
A couple of things here:
- I can't understand why the Titans would not make a run at Asante Samuel for the price the Falcons got him for if they are going to take a corner in the first round.
- The Titans would not be drafting a corner because they lost their top corner in free agency. They would draft a corner because you have to have three good corners to be good in today's NFL.
