2012 NFL Draft: Adam Schefter on Why Nick Perry's Stock Seems to be Falling

Adam Schefter has a mailbag post up over at ESPN.com (In$ider), and one of the questions he was asked was why Nick Perry's stock has been falling. Perry is a guy that was linked heavily to the Tennessee Titans early in mock draft season. Lately he has been falling to the end of the first round.

Click through the jump to see why Schefter thinks that is.

Q: At the combine, Nick Perry was first in the 40-yard dash (4.5), first in vertical (38.5 inches) and second on the bench press (35 reps). He also led the Pac-12 with 9.5 sacks. So why has he been falling?

A: Because his performances in games don't match up to the combine and workout numbers he puts up. What's the old expression from NFL scouts -- looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane? Not saying that Perry fits into that category, but I am saying he has worked out better than he has played. He still is expected to go somewhere in the second round, though, and even could creep into the bottom of the first if a team likes him enough.

I have said it before, but my prediction is that between Perry and Whitney Mercilus, one will be a star and one will be a bust. The key, of course, is figuring out which one it is which.
