2012 NFL Draft: The Titans and Whitney Mercilus

The good folks over at Draft Countdown have a new 2 round mock up, and they have the Titans taking Whitney Mercilus, DE, Illinois. It was reported today that the Titans were in attendance at Illinois Pro Day. That should come as no surprise considering Mercilus could very possibly be the pick.

Here is what they had to say about the pick:

After entering the year with just two career sacks, Whitney Mercilus of Illinois came through with an outstanding junior campaign and finished the season with 22.5 tackles for a loss and 16.0 sacks. However, despite that impressive production Mercilus isn’t particularly explosive or fluid and his instincts are questionable. With that said this class is lacking when it comes to true 4-3 defensive ends, especially at the top, so Mercilus could get pushed up draft boards a bit.

They then had the Titans taking Alfonzo Dennard, CB, Nebraska in the second round. Dennard is considered a first round pick by a lot of people, so I have to believe the Titans would be thrilled to get him with the 52nd pick.

The one criticism I have of this mock is the fact that they have Kirk Cousins as a second round pick. That is not going to happen.
