Anything that makes the Houston Texans worse is a good thing, and the trade they made tonight when they sent DeMeco Ryans to the Philadelphia Eagles makes them worse. In turn the Texans get a 4th round pick and swap third round picks with the Eagles, meaning they move up 12 spots. Ryans was not the same player in the 3-4 that he was in the 4-3 because he came off the field on passing downs, but he is a really good football player. He was also coming off an Achilles injury in 2010.
Ryans is a guy that I really wanted the Titans to take coming out of Alabama in 2006. Unfortunately the Texans snagged him in the second round before the Titans had their second pick. It is good to see that he will now get that Texan stink off.
Here is part of what John McClain had to say about Ryans in his article about the trade:
Ryans, who’ll enter his seventh season, was the defensive captain and team leader. In Wade Phillips’ 3-4, his role was diminished because the weak-side inside linebacker comes out in passing situations.
Congratulations DeMeco for getting off that team!
