Michael Lombardi, who has always had a good pulse on the organization, is reporting that the Tennessee Titans are preparing for a visit from Peyton Manning in the next few days. I am a little surprised by this, but I guess I shouldn't be. If the man who writes the checks wants to talk to a guy, the people that work for him have to do everything in their power to make it happen.
I have come around a little bit to the idea of Peyton here, but Pete Prisco of CBS just made a really good point on the Midday 180 here in Nashville- if a team signs Manning and does not win a Super Bowl in the next three years, they have really set their franchise back. The reason he said that is because you then have to re-evaluate the quarterback position.
We know the team loves Jake Locker, but signing Peyton to a 3-year deal would mean that Locker is not getting his shot until he is in his fifth year in the league. That is OK if the Titans can get a Super Bowl with Peyton, but it is a huge waste if they do not.
[UPDATE]- Chris Mortensen is saying that a visit has been scheduled between Peyton Manning and Mike Munchak in the next few days.
