2012 NFL Mock Draft: The Titans and Whitney Mercilus, DE, Illinois

Ryan Van Bibber of SB Nation has put out a post-combine 2012 NFL mock draft today. He has the Titans taking Whitney Mercilus. Here is what he had to say about the pick:

The Titans need some help on the outside of their defensive line. Mike Munchak's team mustered the second-worst sack total in the league last season, and it probably cost them a shot at the playoffs in an injury-riddle AFC South. Mercilus has just one season of productivity under his belt, giving some experts pause. At the Combine he showed the kind of burst teams like to see in a pass rushing prospect.

Again, the Titans should absolutely draft Mark Barron if he is still on the board there, but it is hard to argue against taking Mercilus if the draft plays out that way. He might be a bust, but there is always the potential that he could be a star.

A few non-Titans observations after the jump.

-There is no way the Jaguars would take Quentin Coples over Justin Blackmon there.

-There is no way the Redskins are going to take Ryan Tannehill. Mike Shanahan needs to win in 2012. Tannehill isn't helping him do that.

- What are the odds that SuperHorn converts to a Texans fan if they do take Stephen Hill there?
