Paul K delivers my absolutely favorite kind of article: a reporter whining about coach speak. Even when they say they aren't whining, or 'nitpicking' in this case, that's exactly what it is. The reality of the situation is that, especially when it comes to future personnel moves, a coach or GM doesn't owe anyone other than the owner an honest response. These guys certainly have a battleplan, but we all know that no battleplan survives first contact. If you give definitive answers then someone is going to get hurt, and there's still an outside chance that said person ends up back in your locker room next season. If nothing else, directly saying that a guy or a unit are a disappointment is usually taken as disrespectful, and there's just no need in that. Sure, Jake Scott sucked here last year, but he put in some productive time and is probably a veteran that Munchak respects as a man. Why should he throw Scott under the bus so that Paul Kuharsky or Titans fans have a sliver of information that might not matter in a month anyway? To my mind, any insight we get is a gift, not a responsibility. If coach speak really gets on your nerves, then don't follow the press conferences... or watch someone like Jeff Fisher, who was the master at disguising coach speak while still saying nothing.
Munchak did reaffirm that Matt Hasselbeck and Jake Locker will be competing for the stating QB spot in training camp this year. There are a lot of situations where this can be toxic, but I believe these two guys are humble and professional enough that it'll bring out the best in both
Ruston Webester said yesterday that we're searching for a 'special' pass rusher, which makes me think they better look at a top free agent, rather than the 20th pick in the draft.
The Titans may be close to reaching an agreement with Jordan Babineaux, according to Webster.
Munchak also mentioned at the combine that the Titans' training camp will most likely remain at BSP.
PFF ranks the free agency safety class, with Tyvon Branch and Thomas DeCoud leading the way, and Griff coming in fourth.
Wes Bunting has notes from the first day of the combine.
