Titans Chat; Monte Kiffin as Defensive Coordinator?

Would Monte Kiffin be a viable option for the Titans in 2013?

Stephen Dunn

It is time again for our weekly chat. Gray hates these because he says this is what the site does all day, every day. He is right, but sometimes there are rules we have to follow.

Anyway, this seems to work better when there is a topic introduced. So today's topic is Monte Kiffin as a candidate to be the Titans defensive coordinator in 2013. It was announced yesterday that he will be leaving USC after the bowl game.

Two things are clear;

1. Kiffin just wasn't cut out to be a defensive coordinator at the college level. He even admitted last season that he couldn't figure out the spread offenses he was facing.

2. Kiffin is a dang good defensive coordinator.

What makes Kiffin a seemingly realistic candidate here is that, as Kuharsky mentioned this morning, he is 72 years old. He might be more willing to come to a staff where the head coach only has one year left on his deal. It would be an re-audition for NFL teams of sorts for him.

I have been a big fan of Kiffin since before the Titans were the Titans (minus the year he spent in Knoxville, of course) because the Buccaneers were my team when I was in middle and high school.

I welcome your thoughts on this topic and anything else.
