Peyton Manning underwent another surgery on his neck today and will miss 2-3 months according to multiple reports out there. The Indianapolis Colts have not commented on the surgery yet, and they also haven't said whether or not they will put Manning on IR. My guess would be that they do.
I hate Peyton more than any other athlete alive, but I do hate that he is going through this. There is no guarantee at this point that his neck will ever be right again, and it would be sad for the NFL if his career is coming to an end.
This does mean, more than ever, that the AFC South is wide open this year. The Colts aren't going to be good with Kerry Collins under center, the Texans are transitioning to a 3-4 and the Jaguars have all kinds of issues. The Titans have their problems, but they are in just as good of a position as anyone else to take home the crown.
This update from Mortensen:
Manning actually just got out of surgery. No plans for injured reserve as doctors monitor fusion result, per sources.
