SI.com tabs Javon Ringer and Jamie Harper as possible surprise starters for week one. Also, I wouldn't go as far as they do in calling Harper has 'excelled' this preseason. He's been nice behind some very good blocking, but he's still not showing the vision, power or blocking prowess of a good NFL back. He's got potential, but he's absolutely and nifty 3rd running back at best this year.
As the final cut down to 53 approaches, there are several positions where the competition to make the roster is going right down to the wire. Jimmy and I covered these at length on Sunday's MCM Radio, but guys like Myron Rolle, Robert Johnson, Rennie Curran and Byron Stingley could all be cut despite being solid draft picks over the past two years. It'll also be interesting to see who makes it on to the practice squad and who gets claimed.
Frank Walker is one of those guys battling for one of the last spots on the roster, and the competitiveness that's bringing to the practices is palpable everywhere. It's been a big area of focus for Munchak, and the players appear to love having the speed and intensity of their workouts amped up over the malaise that had set-in during the past 5 years of the Fisher regime.
John Clayton put together his own list of QBs in the NFL, and he ranked Matt Hasselbeck as the 24th best in the league. At least the arrow is pointing up for Hass. Paul K rightly points out that the immediate upside of Hasselbeck in Nashville is somewhat inflated by the duo he's replacing.
