Linebacker was one of the biggest holes on the 2010 Tennessee Titans. The Titans got a lucky break when Akeem Ayers fell to them in the 2nd round, allowing them to address one of their biggest needs in the second round with first round talent.
Today the Titans will scrimmage at LP Field, and Ayers is a guy to keep an eye on. He has been really impressive in the workouts so far, and it will be fun to see what he does in a game situation.
After practice yesterday Mike Munchak talked about what made the staff plug Ayers in with the first team right away:
Well I think when we drafted him, he was a need. He was the type of linebacker that we just didn’t have. So when we drafted him, we knew we would probably put him in there pretty early for that reason. He has done a nice job. He is learning, and going against some good tight ends every day with Craig Stevens and now (Daniel) Graham and he is only going to get better and better every week. He has shown a lot of strength too. He is adapting well so it’s been fun watching him so far.
