An Argument Against Paying Chris Johnson

Ryan Wilson of CBS.com posted an article about why the Tennessee Titans cannot afford to pay Chris Johnson. Let me be clear that it is my position that the Titans should make CJ the highest paid running back in the NFL, but Wilson makes a pretty good argument against giving him that much money. You really need to click on the article and read the whole thing.

One of the more convincing arguments was made by Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders:

"When was the last time a team with a big-name, big-money back went to the Super Bowl, or even had the best regular-season record in the league? I suppose the 2009 Vikings came close. Otherwise, do you have to go back to the 2005 Seahawks? The best offenses in the modern NFL simply aren't built around a single running back."

It is hard to argue with that. Again, I am good with them giving him somewhere around $25 million guaranteed, but anything north of 30 is too much in my opinion.
