I was reading through Paul Kuharsky's chat from last week, and he got this question from a reader:
We all know about the hype surrounding Jared Cook, but Im wondering if you know how well the new offense will suit his skillset?
Here was PK's answer:
They are intending to build around what they've got. And he should be their third most threatening player. And the second one could be suspended for a while. So yes it will. Whether he catches balls thrown to him is another question.
The concept of "building around what they have" would be a fresh concept to this organization. For years we complained about Jeff Fisher and how he was constantly trying to make guys on the roster fit his system instead of looking at ways to design something around him.
You really don't have to look any further than Cook to see that. They traded up in the draft to get him because of his freakish skill set but then refused to create packages to take advantage of that set.
I sure hope Kuharsky is right and that this new staff will look to build things around what players can do instead of trying to fit the proverbial square peg in the proverbial round hole.
