Does Matt Hasselbeck Make the Tennessee Titans a Playoff Team?

They are debating on the radio right now, 3 Hour Lunch on 104.5 The Zone, if the signing of Matt Hasselbeck makes the Tennessee Titans a playoff team. The short answer to that is no. Hasselbeck is a good QB, but at this point in his career he isn't the type of guy that is going to put a team on his shoulders and carry them to the playoffs. He might have been able to do that early in his career but not now.

The other thing to consider here is that there are so many other question marks surrounding this team. No QB is going to take this team to the playoffs if the defense isn't any better this year than it was last.

No QB is going to take this team to the playoffs if the interior line isn't any better than it was last year.

No QB is taking this team to the playoffs if Chris Johnson holds out for half of the season and/or Kenny Britt is in jail.

Bottom line here is that there are only a select few QBs that are good enough to carry a team to the playoffs with very little help. Hasselbeck isn't one of those guys anymore, but one thing is for sure, he is a heck of a lot better than Jake Locker will be in week 1 this season after not having an offseason to work with this staff, and a heck of a lot better than Rusty Smith has the potential to be.  He also adds an element of leadership that the Titans were desperate for last season.
