Multiple people are reporting on Twitter that the San Francisco 49ers have agreed to terms with Alex Smith on a 1-year contract. I have to assume this means the 9ers are out of the race for Matt Hasselbeck. Again, if Hasselbeck is the guy that the Titans want, it is good news whenever a team that needs a QB signs someone other than Hasselbeck because it drives the price down.
The way I see it the only team still hanging around out there that needs a veteran QB is the Minnesota Vikings, and a lot of people are reporting that they are in trade talks with the Washington Redskins for Donovan McNabb.
I guess you could throw the Miami Dolphins in the mix, but I haven't seen anything that said they were interested in Hasselbeck.
I know the Titans QB situation is a little rough, but look at it this way, we could be the Seahawks. They are going to enter training camp with a three-way battle between Tavaris Jackson, Matt Leinart and Charlie Whitehurst. Good luck with that.
